The Androgynous Girl

What do you get when sexy meets menswear? Janelle Monae. I am so happy that Janelle Monae is now the CoverGirl spokeswoman. She represents the fiercely beautiful woman that embraces herself and her personal style. She is a very talented singer but also happens to be a role model for young women like myself. You may have noticed the lipstick or mascara that she advertises, but even more striking is her signature black and white suit. I really admire her style. I admire all women that can pull of such a tomboy style and still look feminine and sexy without revealing their bodies. Janelle Monae has really inspired me this week and I hope she will do the same for you!

She focuses on the pieces that are timeless, transcendent and always remain remarkable. I think she just pulls this off so well because her classic men’s tuxedo is girl-ified. Her uniform usually has an oversized bow tie or sparkles. To make herself look stunning she tops off her outfit with a classic red or pink lip and goes full on in the eyes, with black liquid eyeliner and long lashes. Janelle looks so glamorous and beautiful that she is always a show stopper, even in an art gallery.

Janelle is an independent spirit. Through her bold style, she exudes confidence. Without a cocktail dress or butt-tight leggings, she pulls off an awesome look. Her classy, outside-the-box clothing emphasize inner beauty. At her concerts, Janelle encourages her audience members to be true to themselves. If you want to be like Janelle then start by embracing your inner beauty. Then develop your own style and try to balance feminism with menswear like the ladies below.

Her look is easy to achieve with some basic pieces paired with retro accessories like big vintage earrings, bold pins and funky bow ties. Try to pair slouchy trousers with a delicate chiffon blouse. Or go for your fave blazer, oxford shirt, or boyfriend‚Äôs shirt ;). Girls, don’t be afraid to wear a tie or bow. (I believe in you.)

This is me in a inspired outfit:

A Floral Winter

I was just playing around on Polyvore and decided that I like the theme of a floral winter. I presented some tips on how you could style your floral clothing this season, and hopefully inspired you to take out that floral skirt you have put away for the cold weather.

floral winter

The pictures above were created by me.

Floral patterns can seem hard to work with during this the winter because they are normally seen as a summer dominant pattern. I¬†love the whole idea of “seasonless” dressing. You can totally recycle of your clothes through out the whole year!¬†Floral’s can actually be a winter-must-have if you style them correctly. You can wear your floral tank top with a black sweater or¬†cardigan¬†completed¬†with a pair of jeans! Or style any sweater with a floral scarf. Another¬†option¬†is to pair your black tights with your pretty floral skirt and wedge boots. It is easy, but the key is to layer.

Scarves, tights, and belts are your best friends! Replace your flip-flops with boots, and your jean jacket with a leather jacket. The styling options are endless.

Keep in mind that if you choose to wear a floral skirt you have to wear a neutral shirt on top.

“Sheer tights not only defeat the purpose of helping you stay warm but they can look very 1985 with a floaty frock (”

Ladies, it is the time to showcase your own style statement, so unpack your floral clothing, and layer, layer, LAYER!

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week! ūüôā

A Floral Winter

A little¬†inspiration¬†for your sweet fashion style ūüėČ

I came across that photo and was stunned by how adorable and cool it was.

Those polka dots look like gumballs to me! However, candy hued clothing doesn’t mean your dress has to have a lollipop print on it. It just means the colors are candy inspired. Go for bright and fun colors or subtle and cute.

Literally Eye Candy

“Brighten up your day with clothing and accessories reminiscent of being a kid in a candy store.” (

I love the combination of a soft baby blue with a subtle pink. It brings cotton-candy to life! It also brings me back to the time when I was a child, eating and having fun with cotton candy!
