No longer are collars just a uniform part of a garment anymore, they are a important detail on dresses and blouses now. They have become an added detail to an outfit, rather than just supporting a classic white shirt. Statement collars don’t require a shirt or printed pants for definition; they’re an individual trend in the running.
The trend is focused especially on collars of the prim and polished variety (think rounded Peter Pan-style or simple and pointed) that are buttoned up all the way to the top. Celebrities such as Carey Mulligan and Alexa Chung are layering collared shirts under their crew neck sweaters. It’s part menswear-inspired, part schoolgirl chic, and the look popped up on fall 2011 runways as well as for spring 2012.
Look for lace, origami or floral printed collars for them to stand out and make a statement. So, whether you’re wearing the collar as a supporting accessory or as a statement piece in your outfit, this fabric around your collarbones will reinstate your personality.
